Recent San Francisco Public
Health Department reports indicate that 80 percent of the youth entering the juvenile
justice system have an alcohol or drug problem. Youth who enter YTEC
through the juvenile justice system have multiple risk factors.
At the time of their enrollment, most have limited education and life
skills, minimal or no job skills, multiple health issues, low self-esteem
and a sense of hopelessness. The circumstances that contribute to family
discord, drug abuse, sexual abuse, violence, parental neglect, depression
and other traumas experienced by our participants are often not addressed
until youth are involved in the criminal justice system. YTEC’s
comprehensive services provide youth and their families with the resources
and support needed to overcome the multiple challenges they face. |
